The Divide is the fourth novel in The Secret Circle series.

SummaryEdit

Keep your enemies close . . .

For the first time since moving to New Salem, Cassie Blake feels normal. She's dating her soul mate Adam and making new friends in town. But between the secret coven of witches she belongs to and the incredible power she holds within her, Cassie is leading a far from ordinary life. When tragedy strikes the Circle, Cassie realizes being extraordinary can be a curse.

The Circle is being hunted by an unknown enemy—and anyone could be the next victim. As they struggle to protect themselves, alliances are formed and relationships are tested. No one knows who to trust or who to fear. Will Cassie be able to save the Circle . . . and herself? Or will her choices break it apart forever?

TriviaEdit

  • This is the first novel in the series not to be written by Lisa Jane Smith.
    • Because of bureaucratic loopholes due to copyright, the publishing company came into possession of the full rights over Smith's work,  entrusting the writing of a new cycle of novels to a ghostwriter, later turned out to be Audrey Clark.
  • This new novel presents significant upheavals of the plot, which do not respect what is narrated in the previous novels.
    • First the setting: if Smith's novels were set in the 80's, The Divide is set in contemporary times.
    • The characters are, indeed, equipped with all current technological items (PC, smartphones, etc)
    • A new itch is introduced, echoing in part the plot of the TV show, in which Cassie discovers she has a sister, who is also a witch. But this contradicts what is told in The Initiation; the circle to which he belonged Cassie's mom was formed by the parents of the actual Secret Circle's members and not from other people.
  • The characters show personalities much more similar to that of their TV show's counterparts than to those of the previous novels.
